How dolphins cope with loss

How dolphins cope with loss

Dolphins are known for their strong social bonds, and sometimes they display remarkable behaviors when facing the loss of another individual of the species. In this talk, we’ll explore an extraordinary sighting that AIMM had off the coast of Portugal, where our researchers observed dolphins mourning for a calf that had died. This behaviour, called epimeletic behaviour, is rare to be captured in film and opens a window into the emotional lives of dolphins and invites us to reflect on the depth of their social connections.
